The Rock Garden located in the South West Garden which is surrounded by native grasses.
The design of the garden is to represent the NFSA and its role in protecting the Audio Visual heritage of Australia.
The local Blue Stones which make up the garden were given to the NFSA by the National Museum of Australia. The plantings inside the rock garden are also native varieties.
Every part of the design has a symbolical meaning and represents the NFSA and the Australian Public.
The four obelisk stones represent the Collection, Film, Recorded Sound & Television and Indigenous people.
- The larger stones around the Collection Stones represent the Staff of the NFSA
- The smaller stones around the Collection Stones represent former Staff of the NFSA
- The plantings represent the increase of the collection.
- The Path around the stones represents the Australian Public who are able to view the collection.
- The circle of staff stones between the path and the collection stones show the NFSA role as custodians and protectors of the collection.
